San Luis Obispo’s KSBY recently ran a story featuring Dr. Noguera speaking to high school teachers in Santa Maria. He stressed the importance of meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students and discussed the limits and possibilities of schooling in an unequal society.
“In many of our schools, we don’t teach kids the way they learn. We expect them to learn the way we teach.” explains Dr. Noguera. “If they can’t do it, we blame the child rather than saying, ‘Maybe we need to adjust what we’re doing here to meet their needs.'”
