De Blasio inherited a segregated school system where poor kids in the poorest neighborhoods were largely relegated to under-resourced schools. Despite his pledge to focus on reducing inequality, he’s done very little to address this issue. Lip service is not a strategy for justice.
“Everyone wants systemic change, but to say that smaller steps are somehow antithetical to that, I don’t think it’s logical, and I don’t think there’s evidence for it,” Mr. Tipson said. “These small steps make a big difference in the lives of individual families and children.”
